On 14 April 2024, students from the MSc in Global Marine Resources Management Program visited the Lau Fau Shan Oyster Farm for an educational field trip. Located in Lau Fau Shan, Hong Kong, the trip aimed to provide students with insights into local aquaculture and the challenges faced by oyster farmers. Interactions with the farmers allowed students to learn about oyster cultivation techniques, environmental conditions, and the life cycle of oysters. Discussions also focused on the difficulties related to environmental changes, water quality, and market demands. Drawing on their marine knowledge, students explored possibilities for enhancing oyster harvest and sustainability. The visit not only expanded students' understanding of the industry but also fostered connections and potential collaborations with local stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainable development in oyster farming.

A group of MSc GMRM students went to Tung Lung Chau mariculture demonstration farm on 14 March 2024. This modern mariculture demonstration farm at the Tung Lung Chau Fish Culture Zone is established by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD). It aims to guide the local mariculture industry move towards modern and sustainable operations so that the trade can enhance its overall competitiveness.
Students were able to walk on the fish raft and explore its modernized technology and management, such as a real-time surveillance system, a real-time water quality monitoring system, an automated feeding system and a solar and wind power generation system. Through communicating with the representatives of AFCD, students had a deeper understanding about sustainable or high-value-added fishing operations, the materials used for building the mariculture demonstration farm, and the overall structure of the demonstration farm.

To let students explore the diverse career opportunities in the green industry, MSc GMRM Program Office organized a visit to Ocean Park on 6 March 2024 (Wednesday). The theme of the in-park visiting program is ‘Marine Mammal Training and Husbandry’, through which students were able to visit the Behind-The-Scene areas of The Ocean Theatre. By interacting with Cissy, who is a marine mammal trainer in the Ocean Theatre, students were able to know more about the daily operations of animal caretakers, the special equipment for marine mammal trainers and the challenges they encountered. Students found the visit to Ocean Park interesting and educational.

On 27 February 2024, the MSc GMRM program office organized a field trip for students to learn about the functions of Aids to Navigation and Mooring Unit (AMNU) while experiencing a captivating sea trip to Green Island Lighthouse.
Led by knowledgeable guides, the participants were introduced to the various aids to navigation systems and mooring facilities that play an essential role in maritime safety. They gained insights into the intricate mechanisms and technologies employed to guide ships and vessels along their intended routes, ensuring safe passage for maritime traffic.
The students also had the opportunity to explore the lighthouse and its surroundings. They learned about the historical importance of the lighthouse and its role in guiding sailors through treacherous waters.
Reflecting on the field trip, one student remarked, "Visiting the AMNU and Green Island Lighthouse was an enriching experience. It provided us with invaluable insights into the functions of aids to navigation and mooring facilities, and allowed us to appreciate the historical significance of these structures. It was a truly unique opportunity to witness the evolution of maritime safety."

On 16 February 2024, a group of MSc GMRM students joined a field trip to Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park. This renowned marine park in Hong Kong spans 260 hectares and is known for its vibrant coral communities and diverse marine ecosystems. Led by experienced guides and accompanied by passionate WWF volunteers, the participants were in for an unforgettable educational journey. The students explored the rocky shores, studying the organisms that inhabit the intertidal zone. They also had a coral-observation trip aboard a glass-bottom boat. They marveled at the colorful corals and gained a deeper understanding of the different coral species found in Hong Kong.
This field trip provided students with practical experience and a greater appreciation for marine ecosystems. Equipped with newfound knowledge, they are prepared to contribute to sustainable practices and conservation efforts.
